Scary Movie CoupleThe majority of personal entertainment these days tends to involve personal interaction and incredible convenience. Just think of the ways in which people spend most of their free entertainment time these days.

For some, it’s console gaming and online multiplayers. From complex game modes on Xbox Live communicating with friends and adversaries, to MMORPG games online, and even electronic apps that connect people across social gaming networks, online multiplayer gaming can occupy hours in a day.

For others, it’s the recent (and continual) trend of gambling online in simulated casino environments. On numerous electronic apps, people can enter card games against live opponents online.

But above all of these convenient means of entertainment – downloadable books and television, high tech consoles and gaming options, etc. – there’s still nothing that matches a big time movie release in excitement and anticipation.

This is a wholly original horror film about a family under attack in a country home. The Davisons are celebrating their wedding anniversary, along with their grown children, in a country mansion when they are besieged by horrific killers wearing farm animal masks. Reunion quickly turns to horror, but one of the Davisons – daughter Erin – has the skill set to fight back and protect herself and her family.

Insidious Chapter 2

In the 2010 film “Insidious,” a family battled against a relatively typical set of supernatural, possessive dangers. The premise was fairly basic, but the movie itself was gripping and horrifying – and fans are expecting much of the same from “Chapter 2.” In this sequel, the Lambert family will be looking to the past to find solutions to their supernatural problems.

Carrie

Chloe Grace-Moretz has become one of the most promising young stars in Hollywood, and for that reason alone “Carrie” is worth getting excited for. In this movie, Grace-Moretz will play Carrie, a sheltered, outcast high school girl who discovers telekinetic powers and puts them to use against oppressive peers.

Paranormal Activity 5

By now any horror fan with a pulse is aware of (and likely a fan of) the Paranormal Activity series, which has proven to be one of the most popular horror franchises of all time. But just to recap, this is a series based on “found footage” filmmaking chronicling paranormal events in households through handheld personal cameras, and creating thrills and scares that feel more real to us than most ordinary plot lines. The specific story of 5 is not yet known, but fans will be flocking to see it nonetheless.

Overall, these are just a few of the year’s biggest horror endeavors. But with the Halloween season just around the corner, and these releases scheduled to surround the holiday, we can probably expect a few of them to be the best of 2013 in the genre.
