Driving at rush hour can be a massive pain. But it could be worse – you could see a ghost crossing the road.

Long-distance lorry driver George Furst reckons he saw the spectre of a ‘Downton Abbey’-era (early 20th century) man in an old tweed coat walking into a tunnel in Ireland. His colleague Stephen Smyth was taking photos as the two drove to Cork, and the spooky vision appeared in one of the snaps.

‘I couldn’t believe my eyes,’ George, 45, said. ‘It looked like an old man wearing an old tweed coat walking down the road into the tunnel.

‘What was so striking was that it was a busy road and he wasn’t looking behind him or paying any attention to any of the cars.

‘In fact, we must have driven right through him just after the picture was taken.’
