A Minnesota woman noticed something strange when she was browsing through the National Register of Historic Places. As she was researching a historical house located in her area, she found an eerie figure in one of the database’s listing photos. She posted the image on Reddit and it went viral.

The Cordenio Severance House is a historical home in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. The mansion also known as Cedarhurst was built for attorney Cordenio Severance shortly after the Civil War. The house was originally a farm house but was expanded in 1911 to 26 rooms totaling 12,000 square feet. The mansion is listed on the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places database.

Reddit user Midwester posted the image of the Cordenio Severance House. In the photo from the listing, a figure is seen lurking on the porch near the back entrance of the home. The photo was taken in 1976 by Charles W. Nelson of the Minnesota Historical Society.

“I was looking through photos on the National Register of Historic Places and spotted this apparition,” Midwester said on the description with the image.

A few Reddit users believe the image in the photo is a statue but the poster insists that it isn’t. Some people think that there is a simple explanation that is creating the illusion of a figure. Others believe it actually is an apparition. It almost resembles Gort, the eight-foot tall alien robot from the “The Day the Earth Stood Still” film.

What exactly is the eerie figure in the photo? Is it a statue? Could it actually be some sort of spirit or a ghost? Sound off with opinions in the comment section below.
