Horror fans were sent the disclaimers when they booked a stay at the building in Alton Towers’ grounds.

Organisers insisted they would not be held responsible for “distress” or “trauma” suffered at the £280 fright nights.

Customers are warned they face “supernatural encounters” – and could even be possessed by demons – when they spend the night at the pile.

The ruined former home of Charles Talbot, the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury, in Staffs, is home to a host of ghosts, including a poisoned king and an opera singer.

An Alton Towers spokesman said: “We strongly recommend to those that may be affected by paranormal occurrences, be it physically, mentally or spiritually, to consider this warning before attending.”

Ticketholder Emily Harding tweeted last night : “Wow I’m happy to get POSSESSED when I go to their sleepover!”
