When does a horror movie become more than just a film? Well when it’s based on a shocking new story.
Back in the 1970s, Britain was horrified to learn about the now-infamous Enfield haunting.
A small suburban town just outside London was thrust into the limelight when one family claimed they were being haunted by a ghost.
But this wasn’t any old ghost – it was a ‘creature’ taking over 11-year-old girl Janet Hodgson.
The Enfield haunting is now one of the most investigated paranormal cases of all time.
Janet Hodgson has spoken out about being haunted in the 1970s
The story begins with Peggy Hodgson, a single mum, who lived alone with her four children.
Margaret, 12, Janet, 11, Johnny, ten, and Billy, seven lived happily for years at 284 Green Street, Enfield.
That was until August 30, 1977. Middle-daughter Janet complained her bed as shaking in the middle of the night, and doting mother Peggy went to check.
From here, the family realised what was happening to them might have more to do with the paranormal world than they’d like.
Speaking over forty years later in a featurette for movie The Conjuring 2, Janet said: “We were good children. We had no knowledge of the history of the house before the happenings.”

“I was used and abused. There was levitation, there were the voices, incidents happened that were quite life threatening for me.”
She added: “The emotions, the thought of it. I think if I had to go through it again it would kill me.”
This year, The Conjuring 2 was released – a horror movie based on the happens at 284 Green Street, Enfield.
In the movie – as happened in real life – Ed and Lorraine Warren were called in from America to help the Hodgson family.
The couple came to the conclusion the Hodgson children – and especially Janet – were the subject of a demonic possession.
